How speaking time is calculated
Speaking time is the word count divided by a speaking pace in words per minute. The default of 130 wpm reflects a comfortable, clear presentation pace. Conversational speech runs faster (150–160 wpm); deliberate, formal delivery runs slower (~110 wpm).
For timed talks — a 5-minute lightning talk or a 60-second ad read — estimating speaking time before recording saves re-takes.

What speaking pace should I use?
130 wpm is a clear presentation pace. Use ~150–160 wpm for conversational delivery and ~110 wpm for slow, formal speech.
Does it account for pauses?
