Alphabetize List

Put any list in alphabetical order instantly.

Paste a list and get it back in clean alphabetical order. This tool is tuned for the common case: A→Z, case-insensitive, with empty lines removed — so names, terms, and items line up exactly the way you'd expect.

It runs entirely in your browser, so your list stays private.

Private by design. Your text is processed entirely in your browser — it is never uploaded, logged, or stored on a server.

Alphabetical order, done right

Alphabetizing sounds simple, but small things trip people up: capitalization scattering related entries, numbers sorting oddly, and stray blank lines. This tool ignores case so “Apple” and “apple” sit together, uses numeric-aware ordering so “2” comes before “10”, and removes empty lines for a tidy result.

It's ideal for bibliographies, glossaries, attendee and contact lists, ingredient lists, and any set of items you want in dictionary order. If you need descending order or length-based sorting, use the Sort Lines tool.

Tips

If your list has duplicates, run Remove Duplicate Lines first for a clean, unique alphabetical list. For multi-column data, alphabetize on the column that should lead, then paste back into your spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

Is alphabetizing case-sensitive?

No. This tool ignores case so “Apple” and “apple” are ordered together, which is what most people expect.

How are numbers handled?

Numerically — “Room 2” comes before “Room 10” rather than being ordered purely by character.

Does it remove blank lines?

Yes. Empty lines are removed so the result is clean. Use Sort Lines if you want more control.

Is my list private?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
